NJDEP subgroup recommends lower limit for PFOA than EPA By Kyle Bagenstose Intelligencer (PA) September 13, 2016 The chemical’s name is a strange one: perfluorooctanoic acid, or PFOA. But the unregulated chemical is potentially toxic, and it’s being found in more and more water supplies across the nation, including the Delaware Valley. Federal and state agencies have been grappling with the chemical and trying to answer a key question: How much can a person safely consume without potentially suffering health effects, such as a suppressed immune system, a damaged liver, reproductive issues or even cancer?
