Contaminated Water Added To Lakeside Woes By SAM HOUGHTON Mashpee Enterprise (MA) November 25, 2016 It was another day in Lakeside Estates. ... To add to the ongoing issues, personnel with the Air Force Civil Engineer Center at Joint Base Cape Cod paid a visit to all of the residents at the trailer park after recording high levels of PFOs and PFAs in drinking water measured from the well. PFOA and PFOS are fluorinated organic chemicals that are part of a larger group of chemicals referred to as perfluoroalkyl substances, according the EPA, and are known carcinogens. ... On the drinking water issue, Douglas C. Karson, community involvement lead for the base cleanup program, said that program workers took readings of the well that provides water to the Lakeside residents, and then last week issued a notice about the high level of contaminants. The program has investigated wells around the plumes associated with Joint Base Cape Cod, including in Falmouth. ...
