Classification of Military Munitions using Electromagnetic Induction Data Dr. Dean Keiswetter, Acorn Science and Innovation Thursday, June 1, 2017 12:00 PM ET (9:00 AM PT) Join SERDP and ESTCP on Thursday, June 1 for a webinar detailing results from Department of Defense funded research to improve the classification of buried metal as unexploded ordnance (UXO) or non-UXO, based on the analysis of multi-coil electromagnetic induction (EMI) data. Dr. Dean Keiswetter, a chief scientist and program director at Acorn Science and Innovation, will present the technical approach and results of a research project to improve the existing data analysis and software toolset for UXO classification. The project merged physics-based inversion routines with a commercial software package; created an efficient data analysis flow, procedures and quality products; and institutionalized lessons learned. Project benefits include higher quality decisions as to the classification of military munitions as UXO or non-UXO as well as reduced remediation costs associated with avoidance of remediation of non-UXO buried metal.
