State Sen. Stewart Greenleaf introduces PFC bill to help local towns with contamination costs By Kyle Bagenstose Intelligencer (PA) August 16, 2017 State Sen. Stewart Greenleaf introduced legislation Wednesday to add toxic chemicals PFOS and PFOA to a list of pollutants regulated under the state’s Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act. The bill is the latest part of a wider strategy by local lawmakers to force the military to do more to clean up groundwater contaminated by military bases in Bucks and Montgomery counties. The chemicals were used for decades in firefighting foams at a trio of former and current bases along the counties’ shared border, and in recent years were found to have contaminated the drinking water supplies of tens of thousands of residents. Greenleaf’s bill, S.B. 852, will act as companion legislation to two bills introduced in the state House by Reps. Kathy Watson, R-144, of Warrington, and Bernie O’Neill, R-29, of Warminster, earlier this year. By adding the chemicals to the state cleanup act, the lawmakers say the towns will have additional legal ammunition to pursue the military. … For the entire article, see http://www.theintell.com/news/horsham-pfos/state-sen-greenleaf-introduces-pfc-bill-to-help-local-towns/article_94948e12-828e-11e7-b136-d7b220006bb3.html -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center P.O.
