Biological and Abiotic Degradation of Chlorinated Solvents Dr. Michelle M. Scherer, University of Iowa Dr. John T. Wilson, Scissortail Environmental Solutions, LLC Thursday, February 22, 2018 12:00 PM ET (9:00 AM PT) Join SERDP and ESTCP on Thursday, February 22 for a webinar detailing results from SERDP and ESTCP funded research on biotic and abiotic degradation of chlorinated solvents. First, Dr. Michelle Scherer, a professor at the University of Iowa, will discuss the importance of solid-state mineral chemistry in predicting biologically-mediated abiotic degradation processes with the goal of advancing the design of enhanced natural attenuation applications. Next, Dr. John Wilson of Scissortail Environmental Solutions, will talk about monitored natural attenuation applications involving the abiotic degradation by magnetite and biological cooxidation of TCE in large dilute plumes, mechanisms that have not been widely recognized and applied, in part because of the difficulty of estimating degradation rate constants.
