Martinsburg OK's federal claim in water contamination case

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Martinsburg is working toward an agreement with the federal government related to the cost of water contamination linked to the 167th Airlift Wing base at Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport, City Attorney Kin Sayre said.

"It's just a matter of time," Sayre said the day after Martinsburg City Council authorized him to file a federal claim against the government.

The city last year awarded bids for equipment and related costs totaling about $2.7 million to fully regain use of the city's Big Springs Water Treatment Plant, south of Martinsburg, off U.S. 11.
