DNR: Do not eat deer taken near contaminated former Wurtsmith base by Marc Daalder and Alanna Siacon Detroit Free Press (MI) October 19, 2018 Deer taken within five miles of Clark's Marsh, a popular hunting spot in Oscoda Township, near the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base should not be eaten because they may be contaminated with PFAS, the Department of Natural Resources warned on Friday. The "forever chemical" foam has made its way to Lake Huron and the problem has worsened in recent weeks. The Free Press reported on Tuesday that the U.S. Air Force is not acting to stop the contaminated groundwater plumes coming off the base, which the state has identified as the source of the chemical.
