Lejeune: Browns Island restrictions still in effect Jacksonville Daily News (NC) June 13, 2019 Officials at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune are reemphasizing the no trespassing policy in effect at Browns Island. According to a press release from Camp Lejeune on Thursday evening, the waterway restrictions for the creeks and tributaries leading to and around the island are there in order to protect people from the frequent live-fire exercises conducted and the unexploded ordnance (UXO) in and around the area. Due to erosion from Hurricane Florence, the release warns, more UXO has been exposed. According to Base Order 3570.1A, according to the release, Browns Island is strictly off-limits to civilians and military personnel not specifically scheduled or pre-arranged to be there. … For the entire article, see https://www.jdnews.com/news/20190613/lejeune-browns-island-restrictions-still-in-effect -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center P.O.
