Groundwater contamination found at local Air Force bases by APRIL MOLINA News 4 San Antonio (TX) September 5, 2019 SAN ANTONIO - An escalating crisis over the toxic "Forever Chemicals" is getting attention on a national level. Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) have been used at military bases in the foam used to extinguish aircraft fires since 1970. "When the foam was developed, obviously we didn't know what we know today," said Joint Base San Antonio Installation Support Section Chief, Cornell Long.
