Air Force won’t follow NH’s new PFAS water safeguards By Jeff McMenemy Seacoast Online (NH) September 18, 2020 NEWINGTON - U.S. Air Force officials said they will continue to follow the Environmental Protection Agency’s “lifetime health advisory” for PFAS and not New Hampshire’s more protective standards. The Air Force has been at the center of water contamination at Pease International Tradeport, the former Pease Air Force Base. Five homeowners in Newington have had PFAS levels in their wells test higher than the state’s new standards but lower than the EPA’s lifetime standards. Also, the city of Portsmouth had to shut down its Haven well at the tradeport in 2014 following detection of high levels of PFAS. Stephen Termaath, chief of the BRAC Program Management Division, acknowledged receiving notice from state officials about the new Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) and Ambient Groundwater Quality Standards (AGQS) for four PFAS chemicals that “were signed into New Hampshire law on July 23, 2020.” … For the entire article, see https://www.seacoastonline.com/news/20200918/air-force-wonrsquot-follow-nhrsquos-new-pfas-water-safeguards -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director Center for Public Environmental Oversight A project of the Pacific Studies Center LSiegel@cpeo.org P.O.
