Impact of PFAS Contamination at the Burlington Air National Guard Base (Part 3) Storm water and wastewater are poisoning Vermont By Pat Elder Military Poisons February 7, 2021 For 40 years the DOD and the EPA knew that PFAS in firefighting foam used on bases caused deadly diseases and did nothing. Now, our food and water are contaminated while the toxins accumulate in our bodies. We are helping to build a movement to mobilize state governments and citizens to hold the military and the EPA accountable, set low contaminant levels, and fund clean-up measures. Most of the PFAS in our bodies comes from the food we eat (especially seafood), and the water we drink. We have been successful in testing seafood and water and using the results as a catalyst for state action. We’ve used Eurofins, a world leader in testing. Samples of fish tissue, surface water, and drinking water cost $300 each. At this point we have identified several dozen locations in New England and Maryland where we’d like to test various media for these toxins near the burn pits of military installations, wastewater treatment plants, and landfills. We also need funding for administrative costs associated with ongoing research and testing. … For the entire article, see https://www.militarypoisons.org -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director Center for Public Environmental Oversight A project of the Pacific Studies Center LSiegel@cpeo.org P.O.
