Feds deny Navy role in Ordot dump problem

If the government of Guam wins its case in the U.S. Supreme Court, it will have an opportunity to prove that the U.S. Navy deposited hazardous waste in the Ordot dump, said Guam Attorney General Leevin Camacho.

Camacho said he was shocked on Tuesday when Justice Department attorney Vivek Suri told justices the Navy did not contribute to the environmentally hazardous dump, which was closed in 2011.

“Although Guam gets a lot of mileage out of its allegations that the Navy contributed to the Ordot dump... We don’t actually think the allegations are true, as a matter of fact,” Suri told justices during oral arguments in the government of Guam’s dump-related appeal.
