Toledo Zoo plans to convert brownfield to parking lot by ALEXANDRA MESTER Toledo Blade (OH) April 29, 2021 The Toledo Zoo is planning to turn a former brownfield along the Anthony Wayne Trail into a huge parking lot, opening up future possibilities of developing exhibit space in its current main parking area on the opposite side. “It’s a long-range plan that allows the zoo to expand,” said Jeff Sailer, the zoo’s president and chief executive. “We’ve been trying to find ways to acquire this land for a long time.” The zoo recently signed a $406,000 purchase agreement with Norfolk Southern Corp. for a 20.33-acre property on the south side of the Trail.
