Navy screening for 'forever chemicals' in Baldwin County drinking water by Andrea Ramey WPMI NBC 15 news (Mobile, AL) June 8, 2021 SILVERHILL, Ala. — The U.S. Navy will begin testing drinking water for some Alabama and Florida residents starting Friday. Those on well water who live near outlying airfields qualify for the free testing. The government says chemicals it used may have seeped into the groundwater. One Baldwin County woman fears her family and neighbors suffered the consequences. Watering the plants is the only thing Diane Mugovero will use her well water for now. She stopped using it for drinking water last week. "It's all bottled water," said Mugovero. She stopped using it when she received a letter from the Navy alerting her that because she lives so close to an outlying field in Silverhill, there's a possibility her well water could be contaminated with PFAS, a family of man-made chemicals, also known as 'forever chemicals.' They're chemicals she's now worried caused health problems for her and her neighbors, who also use well water. … For the entire story, see https://mynbc15.com/news/local/navy-screening-for-forever-chemicals-in-baldwin-county-drinking-water — Lenny Siegel Executive Director Center for Public Environmental Oversight A project of the Pacific Studies Center LSiegel@cpeo.org P.O.
