Assateague beach partially closed after military munition debris found Military munitions debris was found before in the area in 2013, said the National Park Service By Vanessa G. Sánchez Washington Post (DC) August 1, 2022 The National Park Service said it has partially closed the north end of Assateague Island in Maryland after finding multiple pieces of military munitions debris on the beach. The North Beach swimming area at Assateague Island National Seashore is closing until further notice, but the areas north and south of that portion of beach, the parking lot and beach hut will remain open, and lifeguards will be located immediately south of their normal area, the NPS said in a news release Sunday.
