State, federal agencies share status updates on WAFB contamination by Jenny Haglund Oscoda Press (MI) September 3, 2024 OSCODA – The following is the first of a two-part story, recapping the information shared at the Aug. 21 Wurtsmith Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) meeting. Additional details on the various topics will carry over into the second portion of this story, which will appear in next week’s publication. State, federal and other agency personnel who are involved at the site, provided the audience with updates pertaining to the per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination at the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base (WAFB) in Oscoda. In what will be expanded on further in the following edition, some of the RAB members and other attendees said they feel that things have taken a step backward, when it comes to the investigation plans and proposed time lines to remediate the WAFB PFAS.
