| Subject: | [Military Environmental Forum] FORMER SITES, RADIATION: No further Action at Former Superior Steel Site, Scott Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania |
Record of Decision Released for Former Superior Steel Corporation Site By Andrew Kornacki U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District August 12, 2026 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District completed and has published the Record of Decision for the Former Superior Steel Site located at 500 Superior Street, Scott Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, approximately five miles southwest of downtown Pittsburgh. USACE, as lead agency under the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program, determined that no action is necessary at the Superior Steel Site to protect human health and the environment from FUSRAP materials. The record of decision marks the completion of the final step in the federal decision-making process for addressing legacy contamination at the site. The ROD details that no remedial action is needed because the baseline human health risk assessment shows that there is no unacceptable risk to receptors (such as on-site industrial workers) from uranium under current or reasonably anticipated future land uses, and the ecological risk assessment shows that there are not likely to be any adverse ecological impacts from uranium. ….
