In response to Dan's request for information on the term brownfield in its current usage. The Northeast-Midwest Institute sponsored a conference with EDA in Chicago in June 1991 titled, "New Use for Old Buildings." This conference was the first to look at how environmental issues AND economic development play out together at the local/project level. The term was used during a discussion lead by Charles Bartsch in the course of that conference.
