State creates new insurance for brownfields cleanup (Published Wednesday, April 11, 2001 8:19:32 AM CDT) http://www.gazetteextra.com/brownfield041101.html Associated Press MADISON--Businesses that volunteer to clean up and redevelop underused or contaminated properties can now participate in a state insurance program to cover unforeseen expenses if the cleanup is not successful, state officials said Tuesday. The new program is designed to promote the voluntary cleanup of brownfields, or vacant property that may have been polluted by a previous occupant, Gov. Scott McCallum said. The insurance program was approved by the Natural Resources Board on Feb. 28.
