EPA completes round of tests for chemical in Perkasie homes Federal agency expects to release TCE vapor results in May. By Pervaiz Shallwani Allentown Morning Call (PA) April 15, 2004 Federal environmental investigators announced Wednesday they have finished checking 16 Perkasie homes for a potential cancer-causing chemical that contaminates water and may send fumes into basements. The Environmental Protection Agency has been investigating vapor contamination in homes and businesses near a contaminated former industrial plant in Perkasie. In January, the agency said it found higher-than-normal levels of vapors from the pollutant trichloroethylene, or TCE, in 22 of 57 soil samples it tested in a 20-block radius near the Stainless Inc. site on S. Ninth Street. The original tests, taken in November, were spurred by the discovery of higher-than-normal levels of TCE vapors in a sump pump at Delbar Products Inc. at 601 W.
