Contamination at condo complex in Milford

Milford -- Residents at the Caswell Cove condominium complex may soon
have state officials knocking at their doors warning them about toxic gases.

The 400 people who live at Caswell Cove, including State Rep. Jim Amman,
say the state Department of Environmental Protection let them down when
it failed to alert them that underground contamination from a toxic
cleaning solvent threatened their health.

Milford officials say the DEP knew in 1999 that Trichloroethylene had
most likely seeped downhill from the Milford Power Plant but the state
agency did not tell anyone until 2003. Since then the DEP has installed
ventilation systems to prevent TCE gas from seeping up into four
condominium buildings. However, recent testing has shown there are new concerns.
