Cleaning Up By: Karen Scott Ithaca Times (NY) November 3, 2004 One aspect of the Emerson clean up seems to have been cleared up; recent testing of the Seneca St. excavation soil indicates that contamination at the bottom of the hill is well under target levels. ... Testing of air quality in 50 selected homes by Emerson's engineers has begun and should be finished by the end of next week. This is a good time of year to do it, as doors and windows are closed and heating systems tend to draw air up from basements, the source of indoor air contamination, said John Anderson of the County Health Department. Besides judging contamination levels in each tested residence, the DEC will be looking for significant drop offs in levels around the presumed edge of the plume. Failure to find lower numbers indicates that the contamination covers a wider area than thought and that more testing is required. ... http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=13282645&BRD=1395&PAG=461&dept_id=216620&rfi=6 -- Lenny Siegel Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight c/o PSC, 278-A Hope St., Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650/961-8918 or 650/969-1545 Fax: 650/961-8918 <lsiegel@cpeo.org> http://www.cpeo.org _______________________________________________ Brownfields mailing list Brownfields@list.cpeo.org http://www.cpeo.org/mailman/listinfo/brownfields | |
