Gates plans TCE cleanup Solvent taints groundwater on parcel up for rezoning By Kris Hudson Denver Post Staff Writer Thursday, December 9, 2004 Gates Corp. intends next month to begin cleaning up a hazardous industrial solvent discovered on the eastern portion of its former Denver campus, a Gates official said Wednesday. "Our goal as a company right now in having uncovered this issue is to get into the field and clean it up as soon as possible," Tom Reeve, Gates' director of corporate development, told a Denver City Council committee. Gates hopes to rezone the 30-acre parcel and sell it next year, but first the company will lead the removal of trichloroethylene, or TCE, from the former rubber-plant site, he said. TCE is a highly volatile liquid used as an industrial cleaner. Breathing small amounts of its vapors may cause headaches, lung irritation and dizziness. ...
