Possible reuse of site on planners' agenda FEL location was contaminated over period of years BY KATHY BARATTA Tri-Town News (NJ) August 4, 2005 Members of the Howell Planning Board are expected to discuss the potential redevelopment of the property that formerly housed Frequency Engineering Lab-oratories (FEL). The board will meet tonight in the municipal building. The FEL site is made up of 216 acres fronting Route 547 in Farmingdale; 141 acres of the tract are undevelopable wetlands, according to a study commissioned several years ago by the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Division of Responsible Party Site Remediation. FEL was owned and operated by William Hurley, of Allen-wood. In May 2001, the firm filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which allows not only for a reorganization of assets, but for the debtor to retain those assets rather than having to totally liquidate all assets as in a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. ...
