Port seeks greater authority Wants bigger role in Hamilton County development BY KIMBALL PERRY CINCINNATI ENQUIRER (OH) January 27, 2006 Hoping to expand its role, the Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority wants to reorganize and expand its jurisdiction, a move that proponents say could bring more development and jobs to Hamilton County. "We want to expand the port authority's power ... to give us the authority to do what other port authorities around Ohio do," port Chairman Jack Rouse said Thursday. "It's a very mature development tool in many areas, but unfortunately not here." Since the port began operation five years ago, it has done just some of what Ohio law allows port authorities to do: Receive grants for cleaning up "brownfield" or industrial sites for redevelopment. ...
