Gov. Blagojevich proposes brownfields cleanup By Philip Ewing ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH (MO) February 13, 2006 SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Riverfront reclamation projects in the Metro East area and elsewhere in Illinois could obtain new grants and other state aid under a plan announced Monday by Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Dubbed the River Edge Redevelopment Initiative, Blagojevich's plan would help cities along rivers clean up polluted former industrial sites, called brownfields, to make way for new projects. The plan would provide local governments with $20 million in grant money, tax credits and tax exemptions for such work. ...
