Brownfields Program to host April Conference:

“Bridging Economic Development and Environmental Protection”

The Indiana Brownfields Program will host the “Indiana Brownfields Conference 2006: Bridging Economic Development and Environmental Protection” at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis on April 11 and 12. “The conference will highlight recent initiatives affecting brownfield redevelopment from the local, state and federal perspectives as well as explain recent changes to the Indiana Brownfields Program,” said Ryan Kitchell, Director of the Indiana Finance Authority.  “The Authority is committed to partnering with local communities to redevelop brownfield sites to encourage economic growth in Indiana.”

Former Indianapolis Mayor Bill Hudnut of the Urban Land Institute and Charles Bartsch, Director of Brownfield Studies at the Northeast-Midwest Institute, will speak at the event along with other local and national authorities on brownfield redevelopment.

A brownfield is a property where redevelopment is complicated due to actual or potential environmental contamination. The Indiana Brownfields Program, housed within the Indiana Finance Authority, works in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and other Indiana agencies to assist communities in making productive use of their brownfield properties.

Sessions offered at the conference will cover topics such as Environmental Insurance, Vapor Intrusion, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management’s Risk Integrated System of Closure, and the new federal rule on All Appropriate Inquiry regarding environmental investigations. Participants will also learn about the structure of the new Indiana Brownfields Program and new state and federal brownfields redevelopment initiatives. Brownfields-related companies and organizations will be available in the Exhibit Hall for networking.

Those expected to attend include local and state government officials, environmental consultants, banking professionals, attorneys, real estate professionals and non-profit organizations. To register, contact Lois Vining of Event Planning Services at (317) 823-9530 or lois@meetingpros.com
