Land cleanup may get incentives Lawmakers propose increasing tax credits for the developers Rich Mckay Orlando Sentinel (FL) March 18, 2006 Polluted lands are scattered throughout Florida, but it hasn't been easy to persuade anyone to clean them up. For nearly a decade, the state has offered $5 million annually to developers willing to clean up and build on the sites of former gas stations, dry cleaners, auto-repair shops or other places that pollutants fouled. But there have been few takers. Now some lawmakers want to sweeten the pot. State Sen. Lee Constantine, R-Altamonte Springs, is sponsoring a bill that would boost the tax credits given to developers to 50 percent of the cleanup costs each year up to $500,000. That's up from 35 percent and $250,000 a year. If the land is developed as low-income or affordable housing, the deal could get even sweeter: 75 percent or $350,000. ...
