Discovering the Potential for Filling the Donut HoleCommentary by Tim Myers The Santa Clarita Valley Signal (CA) October 1, 2006 Fourth in an occasional series. Some people describe obscure facts and figures utilizing the term "inside baseball." Like strange baseball statistics, only a sliver of fans actually know and recite them; the rest scratch their heads. Still, their knowledge marks the true and deep baseball fan from the ordinary. Similarly, in the SCV, acquaintance with the term "donut hole" sets one apart from the ordinary citizen with respect to real estate and land use, and the trifecta of real estate stories first published on June 23, 2006, in The Mighty Signal dealt specifically with the donut hole - the historic Bermite property. The Bermite property sits in the approximate center of the city on roughly 1,000 acres behind the Saugus Speedway and the Santa Clarita Metrolink Station. Termed the "donut hole" because, from the air, it appears like the hole in the donut of the developed city of Santa Clarita and the greater Santa Clarita Valley, the property has stood fallow since 1987. ...
