Washington state seeks input on Cadet plume clean-up Allan Brettman The Oregonian January 15, 2008 The state Department of Ecology has approved the Port of Vancouver's plan for completing cleanup of a toxic plume laying beneath a west Vancouver neighborhood. ... Cadet Manufacturing, an electric-heater maker, once used a solvent called trichloroethylene, or TCE, in its production process. The company's headquarters near the Port is less than a half-mile north of the Columbia River and adjacent to Swan Manufacturing, a defunct company that once used TCE and which also has remnants of a toxic plume underground. The plume is now under part of the Fruit Valley neighborhood where it poses a small risk to indoor air in some of the homes, the state Department of Health has said. The community's drinking water comes from a different source. ...
