Canton site prepped for project
City to provide drainage system at old IH area, set to get retail store

January 16, 2008

CANTON - City officials have decided to take a short-term, less
expensive approach to installing infrastructure on the former
International Harvester site as a potential groundbreaking for the first
project there looms.

Faced with two options that ranged in price from an estimated $195,000
to more than $1.3 million for storm water drainage systems at the vacant
Brownfield where the city's largest employer once operated, the City
Council on Tuesday voted for the less costly choice.

That means they'll prep 14 of the 33 downtown acres on the northern
border of the property - the parcels thought to be most primed for
development - instead of incorporating a system that would include all
of the land.
