City looking for 'creative solution' to problems with turning former
foundry site into public park

COLDWATER - For nearly 20 years, the city of Coldwater wanted to turn
the Marmon-owned former Midwest Foundry site, between Park and Hooker
streets in the First Ward, into a public park.

It sits as a vast wasteland of weeds, concrete and fencing. That dream
seemed close, possibly by year's end. But now City Attorney Charles
Bappert said a hitch developed with Marmon because the land is a
"Brownfield" site under regulation of the Michigan Department of
Environmental Regulation (MDEQ). He hopes there is a "creative solution"
to the problem.
