Bay City Commission clears hurdle for Harrison Street improvements, 
Carbone of America expansion

Bay City moved another step closer to completing its end of the bargain 
in helping Carbone of America complete a $10 million expansion in Bay City.

The City Commission on Monday approved the Brownfield Redevelopment Plan 
for Carbone of America Ultra Carbon Division, 900 Harrison St. The 
agreement clears the way for the city to be paid back for $1.1 million 
of the city's general fund used to work on the street through the 
capture of taxes.

The Bay City Commission agreed in October to tap the city's rainy day 
fund to pay for the project. The cost to reconstruct Harrison Street is 
an estimated $2,641,425.

Monday's approval also allows for the Michigan Economic Development 
Corp. to formally approve the developer's application for the Michigan 
Business Tax Credit prior to the commencement of the project this 
spring. The credit could chip in an additional $400,000 towards the project.
