Groups Appeal Brownfield Court ruling Associated Press WWTI Newswatch 50 (Watertown, NY) April 2, 2008 (Albany, N.Y.) AP -- Environmental groups are appealing a state Supreme Court judge's ruling that upheld brownfield cleanup standards issued by the state Department of Environmental Conservation. Judge Christopher Cahill in Albany ruled in February that the DEC had correctly implemented the brownfields law that encourages companies to clean up and reuse polluted sites such as former gas stations and abandoned factories. Environmental Advocates, the New York Public Interest Research Group, the Sierra Club, and Citizens Environmental Coalition say what was "once hailed as landmark environmental legislation" has become "watered down" and fails to protect public health and the environment. ...
