Reclaiming old dump: Gaylord Brownfield may become site for concrete
recycling business
By Chris Engle Gaylord Herald Times October 17, 2008GAYLORD - Elmer's Crane and Dozer will invest $1.3 million and create 10 new jobs in Gaylord if plans for expanding its business go through. Additionally, the city's former landfill on Milbocker Road could see a new life as the site of Elmer's expansion of its concrete recycling operations and new taxes could be generated on a site that's currently generating none. Elmer's Crane and Dozer of Traverse City gained the support of local governments for the redevelopment project and made a loan application this week to the Michigan Dept. of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and has plans to purchase the approximately 40-acre lot from the city. The Otsego County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (OCBRA) made the application for the loan, which "will finance the environmental investigations that need to be done in order for Elmer's to move on with their project," according to Jeff Ratcliffe of the OCBRA. ...
