More delays ahead for Commerce Square

BURLINGTON CITY - Members of the City Council must decide this month if 
they are willing to give a development company another 10 months to find 
tenants for a planned office complex in the city's Commerce Square 
industrial park.

Even if the council decides to retain the Ventnor-based New Vistas Corp. 
as the project developer, construction on the 20-acre site south of the 
Burlington-Bristol Bridge likely will be delayed until 2010 because of 
environmental issues.

New Vistas must wait for a site investigation required by the state 
Department of Environmental Protection to be completed. The DEP then 
will review the report and make recommendations before a construction 
start date can be set.
