Final gasp for foes at Willets Pt. by Liz Rhoades Queens Chronicle (NY) November 13, 2008With only a few days remaining before the City Council vote, both sides of the Willets Point development plan made a last attempt this week to convince council members to vote their way. In the case of the city - which is promoting the $3 billion mixed-use project - a "new" study reveals "widespread contamination" in Willets Point. In addition, the city's Economic Development Corp. announced agreements with three landowners to purchase their land there. So far, the city has only amassed 15 acres of privately held land in the 62-acre site. In the case of the workers and business owners there, a rally on Monday asked the mayor to rethink the project and put it on hold. ...
