NORTH TONAWANDA: Rand project getting legs

Developers with Sweeney Street's $15 million Remington-Rand rehab have 
been approved for state Brownfield tax credits at long last.

The money, which can be used to offset up to 10 percent of a project's 
cost, is directed at demolishing and then cleaning up old contaminated 
industry buildings statewide.

It was a necessary step for the developer, Kissling Interests L.L.C., 
and looked dicey early this summer when the program was halted in Albany 
due to mismanagement. Now the paperwork has come back stamped "approved" 
after months in line.

Kissling also said approval on a construction loan in the coming days 
will round out the costs to turn the one-time typewriter factory into a 
cutting edge live/work environment based on a concept already booming in 
sections of Manhattan - SOHO and Tribeca - Cleveland and elsewhere in 
the nation.
