Bridgeport factory plan adding 100 jobs By Bill Cummings Connecticut Post January 22, 2009 BRIDGEPORT -- Marking the first good economic news in the city since the recession took hold, the state announced Thursday it plans to allocate $2 million to turn a former factory on Horace Street into a new manufacturing center with up to 100 jobs. Gov. M. Jodi Rell said the $2 million will help clean up a former factory at 380 Horace St. that once housed the former Conco Medical Co. The State Bond Commission is expected to approve the funding when it meets Jan. 30. The money will help Columbia Elevator Products Co. Inc., based in Port Chester, N.Y., create a new elevator cab manufacturing plant. Columbia plans to bring up to 100 jobs to Bridgeport over the next three years, and the factory is expected to serve all of Columbia's Northeast customers. ...
