State assistance may clear way for Whitehall Township project by Dave Alexander Muskegon Chronicle (MI) July 21, 2009WHITEHALL TOWNSHIP -- Michigan authorities have provided assistance for the private cleanup of the former Muskegon County wastewater property in Whitehall Township, paving the way for a multifaceted development. The Silver Creek New Energy Development on the 640 acres northeast of U.S. 31 and Holton-Whitehall Road received $492,000 in brownfield tax credits and a $1 million brownfield loan from the Michigan Economic Growth Authority Tuesday morning. The state's assistance was based on an initial $13 million private investment and the creation of 150 jobs over the next five years. Over the long run, the potential private investment has been estimated at $54 million. The Silver Creek plans include an electricity-generating plant, cellulosic ethanol plant, recycling/waste transfer station, farming and a residential neighborhood in a wooded area never used in the county's operations. All the plans will need to be approved by the Whitehall Township Planning Commission and Board of Trustees. ....
