Waste-site redevelopment plan moving along

WHITEHALL TOWNSHIP -- A plan to redevelop the former Muskegon County 
wastewater treatment site in Whitehall Township for a multitude of other 
uses is showing signs of life.

If a developer's plans become reality, the proposed Silver Creek New 
Energy Development would feature a variety of uses including 
agriculture, a cellulosic ethanol (or alternative feedstock) production 
plant, a power generation facility, an ethanol/gas service station, a 
recycling center/waste transfer station, recreational/educational 
activity areas, commercial/light industrial businesses and other related 
developments. The project also may feature some residential development.

Township officials recently were notified that the Michigan Department 
of Environmental Quality had approved all environmental assessment 
needed to help provide financing through the state's brownfield 
redevelopment program.
