Former Water St. bookstore changing face

CATSKILL - The rebirth of Water Street is in full swing, as two 
antiquated eyesores on the former manufacturing boulevard undergo a 
significant facelift.

First, the Union Mills Lofts development, featuring upscale, custom-fit 
condominiums, took over the warehouse that was formerly Oren's 
Furniture. And now the former McDonald's Book Shop of 125 Water Street 
has been acquired by Michael Ferro, owner of Ferro Scrap Iron and Steel, 
with intentions to transform the creekside property into a 
state-of-the-art mixed-use commercial endeavor.

At a Village of Catskill Planning Board meeting Monday night, 
Development Consultant Rene VanSchaack, of Community Natural Resource 
Solutions, came before the board to - not only quell rumors that have 
been circulating around the community - but pitch plans for what it may 
become in the future.
