$8 million clean-up planned for polluted Brandon site By YVETTE C. HAMMETT The Tampa Tribune (FL) August 7, 2009The owners of a heavily polluted 12-acre industrial site off U.S. 301 have agreed to pay for soil and water cleanup there. The former tin recycling plant used a process where chemicals removed tin coatings from cans. The wash water from that process - a slurry of dangerous chemicals â was then dumped into a drainage ditch, sending pollution into the groundwater and surrounding soil. MRC Holdings Inc. has agreed to pay some $8 million to clean up the pollution at the site, at 9220 Stannum St., near the intersection of U.S. 301. The company purchased the property from MRI in 2002. The site was used a de-tinning plant between 1979 and 1986. ...
