WCEMA staff not yet allowed to return to CONWR office By Bill Swinford Marion Daily Republican (IL) October 14, 2009 Marion, Ill. -Despite passing air quality tests, the Williamson County Emergency Management Agency's office at the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge will not yet reopen. The Williamson County board voted to keep the office closed, citing continuing concerns with employee health and possible liability. The agency and its four employees are operating temporarily in the courthouse annex on West Main St. In September the county received results from the Environmental Protection Agency's test of the soil on the property, which is leased from the federal government. Contaminants, including trichloroethylene, were discovered in the testing. Trichloroethylene (TCE) is a man-made solvent used primarily to remove grease from metal parts and textiles. As a gas, TCE can accumulate in buildings at dangerous levels through the process of vapor intrusion. ...
