Council supports clean up at 2 sites Will vote on Paintcraft, old gas station at March 1 meeting By CHRIS MOUZAKITIS Galesburg Register-Mail (IL) February 15, 2010GALESBURG - Two brownfield sites in the city could be cleaned up by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency if the City Council acts on the recommendations made Monday by the city’s development director. Roy Parkin told the council of the situation at four brownfield sites within city limits. According to the IEPA, a brownfield is an abandoned, unused, under-used industrial or commercial property that has actual or perceived contamination and an active potential for redevelopment once it is cleaned up. The contaminated properties discussed are 963 S. Henderson St., site of the former Paintcraft Manufacturing Corp.; 3200 N. Henderson St., a now vacant lot once a Gulf Station; 57 N. Kellogg St., former site of Knox Laundry; and 117 N. Kellogg St., site of the recently demolished Viewpoint Eatery. ...
