NYC to Offer Brownfield Grants: Brownfield Incentive Grant (BIG) Program 
Draft Regulations Released



The New York City Mayor's Office of Environmental Remediation is pleased 
to announce the release of draft regulations for the NYC Brownfield 
Incentive Grant (BIG) Program to encourage the cleanup and redevelopment 
of brownfield properties in New York City. The BIG Program provides 
funds to brownfield projects from the earliest stages of project 
development through remediation. Total grant award amounts vary, but for 
community-based brownfield projects, total grant awards will generally 
range up to $100,000-$140,000. Local match grants for Brownfield 
Opportunity Area program grantees range up to $25,000. The program is 
expected to open in May 2010.

Preference is given in the BIG program to Preferred Community 
Development Projects which include affordable housing, projects 
consistent with strategic brownfield goals established in a BOA plan, or 
community facility projects. Special bonus cleanup grants are also 
available for Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) Strategic Properties 
identified by BOA grantees during the BOA planning process.
