Kennebunk to begin testing on Mobil Station site it hopes to purchase
Town considering purchase of former Main Street Mobil

KENNEBUNK - Test pits will be drilled at the Main Street Mobil station 
next week and the DEP will visit the site as well, Town Manager Barry 
Tibbetts said at a Board of Selectmen meeting March 23.

Town officials have proposed buying the property, currently owned by 
C.N. Brown, and converting it from a gas station to anything from a 
chamber of commerce site to a pocket park to new retail space.

According to Tibbetts, the assessments will begin next week, but the 
town has decided not to apply for the DEP Brownfields grant. Instead, it 
will seek up to $200,000 from Southern Maine Regional Planning for the 
clean-up work.
