By Jack Spillane New Bedford Standard-Times (MA) May 16, 2010Five years after the Environmental Protection Agency approved the construction of the Keith Middle School in New Bedford, the cleanup, or "remediation" of the adjacent site of the Parker Street Waste Site is well under way. Though much remains to be done, much has been done already.The goal, according to the EPA, is to make the site safe enough to be used not only by the New Bedford school system, but also by neighborhood residents, businesses and those using the state skating rink. Between the 1930S and 1950s, the city, across more than 40 acres of wooded swamp land between Oak Grove Cemetery and Summit Street, operated what was called the "Parker Street Dump." ...
