Former Gardner building nearing demolition By MEGAN SHERIDAN Beaver Dam Daily Citizen (WI) November 18, 2010HORICON - The Horicon City Council approved additional funding and a contractor to tear down the former Gardner Mfg. building, 253 Kansas St. The city approved approximately $30,000 from the general fund to go toward demolishing the building which will cost a total of $99,136. The cost of demolition is high due to lead paint covering the building. "The quotes came in higher than originally estimated so there's an unfunded amount," Mayor Jim Grigg said. The city was awarded $100,000 in a Brownfield Grant in March and a $30,000 Brownfield grant in 2009 both was used up to clean up the site. "Unfortunately the building is in such disrepair; financially it didn't make sense to bring the building up to code." Grigg said....
