Ranson dedicates Powhatan Place By RICHARD F. BELISLE Hagerstown Herald Mail (MD) November 18, 2010RANSON, W.VA. — Ranson city fathers broke ground on a vision Thursday — a vision they call Powhatan Place, a five-acre plot that is now a fenced-in brownfield left from an abandoned factory. Undaunted, Mayor A. David Hamill and the City Council are determined to redevelop the site into a “walkable” mix of new uses, from residential units to commercial and retail ventures framed by green space and parks. The three-block area runs between Seventh and Beltline avenues from Preston Street to the Norfolk Southern rail line, Hamill said at the ground-breaking ceremony held inside one of the former Kidde Fire Fighting Inc. buildings, which also was once the Powhatan Brass & Iron Works. ...
